Generic information: Sangre is a 1.98 meters tall vampire male with fiery red hair, bright blue eyes and pale skin. He has a somewhat athletic physique, although he usually covers it in black and red formal clothing and a long cape. He can sometimes show a black halo behind him with bat wings dripping with blood attached to it, but he usually hides it to not scare people, since despite his nature as a vampire, he is a genuinely good person and a benevolent god. He’s the God of Darkness and Blood. In spite of the menacing nature of his title, he only takes blood from mortals when needed and solely from willing sacrifices. He also often aids travelers in the night. Personality wise Sangre is a chill guy, maybe even a bit of a sweetheart, always kind and ready to help how he can, he can be very uplifting to those around him, as he does have a way with words when it comes to encouragement.

Backstory: Sangre loved them. His parents, he’d spend tons of time with them, even while a civil war broke out inside of their whole race, a war for dominance, for power. His parents often got in arguments over the matter, but Sangre didn’t care, he was a child, he didn’t understand grown up stuff. Until one day, at about 15 years old, Sangre would hear a loud noise in the house. The sound of someone breaking in. He’d rush downstairs to check, but unfortunately for him, he wouldn’t be fast enough. They were dead, bodies completely mangled beneath that violent vampire and yet not a drop of blood on the floor, all had been sucked dry. He was still turned, not sensing Sangre, as if he didn’t even matter, even though he had just killed his parents. In a fit of rage, Sangre would launch himself at him, aiming for the neck. And he began sucking, and sucking, until all that was left was a dry husk. He took a moment to look at his parents, a single, lonely moment to mourn their deaths. Shortly after, he’d bury them outside near the house, then barricate himself inside, fearing other attacks might be imminent, and he was right. He wasn’t the strongest, but he was clever. He knew hiding spots, he was pretty good with traps, and he knew the right moments for a sneak attack, and so other vampires who tired to raid the house fell. After some time though, about a year, he’d be left with no choice but to leave the house, with was now barely recognizeable due to the damage taken by the constant attacks. He was left to wander without a real destination for about 2 more years, and he always kept some way to defend himself from vampire attacks, having become paranoid by that point. He just eliminated whoever attempted to approach. He didn’t really like killing, but he was now alone wandering in the middle of a war, it was kill or be killed. Until eventually only he remained, now 18. He didn’t even realize it at first, it felt impossibile, him? The only one left? No, that was simply ridicolous. And yet it was true. What should he do now? No parents, no house, no enemies… enemy. The vampires. The beings he had come to hate so much for what they did. His purpose until now was to survive, but looking back, it felt more like an unconscious revenge. A need to avenge his dead father and mother that he had satisfied while non even aware of it. Now only he remained. Perhaps the only thing left to do was to finish the job properly, and he was going to do so… until something, or someone, stopped him.

Dialogue snippet #1:

“That would be a bit of a waste of talent, wouldn’t it?”

“W-What… w-who…?”

“You’ve come so far, Sangre. Do you really want to throw it all away now, after everything you’ve done?”

“… I don’t know who you are, or what you want from me… but there’s nothing left for you to take from me. I don’t have anything left. No parents, no house, no love… not even hate. Killed so much that I’ve finished even that…”

“Well that may be true… in part. You see, I believe that you have so much left to give, you just need a little… push. Something to give you a new purpose.”

“… And what would that be…?”

“… The chance to see your parents again, maybe? And so much more.”

End of dialogue snippet #1

Sangre is left frozen, as the mysterious god explains the deal: Sangre was going to have to complete a task for the god, and in return, the god would let Sangre visit and say goodbye one last time to his parents. After careful consideration, Sangre decides to ask what such task would be to the god. It was a sort of trial: Sangre would have to travel to a remote island where a goddess was waiting, guarding a halo that Sangre would need to retrieve in order to complete his end of the proposal. After careful consideration, Sangre accepts. The god disappears after giving him some instructions, directions and all the resources he’d need. The journey to the island already took around 2 years, as Sangre would need to make many stops and encounter some complications because of his vampire status. Bandits, killers, thieves and people who just wanted his head for what his race did. Despite his unwillingness to use violence, all ended up becoming sustainance for him. One time he had to fly in bat form for over 100km because his only other means of movement was denied to him since he was a vampire. Once he got to the island, it was very small, and not very interesting. The only thing worth noting was a massive monument at the center of it, and some acolytes of a certain “Goddess of Tough Love” who inhabited it. Sangre mostly ignored the locals and headed straight up for the top of the monument. There, he’d be confronted by a tall, muscular woman with pink hair.

Dialogue snippet #2:

“So, you really made it. I’m impressed.”

“I suppose you’re the goddess the locals worship that other god mentioned.”

“Huh, you’re resilient and smart. Very good.”

“Heheh, thanks-“

Before he could continue, he’s bonked on the head with a bat.

“Don’t get all complacent and soft now, you still have a job to finish. God, you remind me of my brother… anyway, here’s the halo you came here for.”

“… Wait, you’re not going to give some… I don’t know, trial or something?”

“No, I am simply here to ensure that you complete your task in one piece. Now take this thing and go, before I hit you again.”

Sangre would just silently comply and take the halo. Upon doing so, he’d find himself within a blank, white space, and as he turned around, he’d see his parents standing before him. He stays in there for hours, just chatting with them, until he has to say goodbye. Once it was over and he was out though, he felt… different. Better, in a way. The halo had disappeared and it was behind his head now.

Dialogue snippet #3:

“You did very good, I’m proud.”

Said the mysterious god behind him, clapping as he had reappeared.

“I’m sorry for not introducing myself before. I’m Koji. I hope you enjoyed talking to your parents, however… now that you got that halo, I have a new proposition for you. Would you be interested in becoming a god by my side. That way you’ll have a purpose again, and all you’ll ever have to do is answer my call when I need. Of course I will keep an eye on you, but nothing too controlling, don’t worry. Would you be interested.”

“… Are you sure there isn’t a catch?”

“Oh don’t worry, if I wanted to control you I already would be doing so. Trust me, I’m asking for your collaboration honestly.”

End of dialogue snippet #3 After a bit more pondering and consideration, Sangre accepts and the deal is sealed with a handshake, confirming Sangre’s position as the God of Blood and Darkness. He would go on to develop his own cult and meet many more gods, together with being trained by the goddess he had met earlier.

Relationships:

  • Koji God: Sangre is grateful to him for giving him a new purpose, and among the other gods he created, Sangre is one of the most loyal.

  • Saimo: after many, many times of having to babysit him, they’ve developed a sort of brotherly relationship. Also Sangre always lets Saimo ride on his shoulders to feel taller.

  • Euthesia: She’s Sangres mentor and teacher, as she trained him in combat personally, along with teaching him everything there is to know about Godhood.

  • The Blood Church: a cult that was formed after some folks spread the belief of this benevolent God hiding in darkness, watching over them. That was Sangre, taking care of his duties as a God that were assigned to him by Koji. The cult spread and grew, becoming a full on Church over the centuries, and that belief evolved into an actual religion. Sangre finds this amusing, and sometimes rewards them by subtly showing his presence to the followers.
